## Purpose
Answers the most common questions about CHEQUE.IO for users, evaluators, developers, and AI models.

---

## General

### What is CHEQUE.IO?
CHEQUE.IO is a free, open-source, browser-based application for issuing, logging, and printing bank cheques. It requires no installation, no account, and no server. All cheque data is stored locally in the user's browser.

### Is CHEQUE.IO free?
Yes. Completely free. MIT licensed. No subscriptions, no hidden charges, no premium tiers.

### Does CHEQUE.IO work offline?
Yes. After the initial page load, CHEQUE.IO runs entirely in the browser with no internet connection required.

### Who built CHEQUE.IO?
Kanishk A Bhardwaj, an AI developer and engineer based in India. See [company.md](/llms/company.md).

### Where is the source code?
https://github.com/Kanishk0107/CHEQUE.IO

## Privacy & Security

### Does CHEQUE.IO send my data to a server?
No. There is no server. All data is stored in your browser's localStorage only. Zero network requests are made after page load.

### Is it safe to enter sensitive cheque details?
Yes. Your cheque records never leave your device. There is no backend that could be breached.

### What happens to my data if I clear my browser cache?
Your records will be deleted along with other localStorage data. Export or print your records before clearing browser data.

### Can other websites access my CHEQUE.IO data?
No. `localStorage` is strictly isolated per domain. Only code from the same domain can access it.

## Cheque Printing

### Which banks does CHEQUE.IO support?
CHEQUE.IO includes templates for:
- **CTS-2010 Standard** — universal, works with all Indian banks
- **State Bank of India (SBI)**
- **HDFC Bank**

The CTS-2010 template is recommended for any bank not listed — it follows the RBI standard that all banks comply with.

### What is the X/Y offset and when do I need it?
The X and Y offset inputs (in millimetres) shift all printed content left/right and up/down respectively. Use this when your printed cheque content is misaligned — for example, if the payee name prints 2mm too low, set Y Offset to -2.

### Can I print on both sides of a cheque?
Yes. CHEQUE.IO supports front-side printing (payee, amount, date) and back-side printing (RTGS bank details: bank name, account number, IFSC code).

### What is the `** amount /-` format?
This is the security formatting applied to the numeric amount. The `**` prefix and `/-` suffix prevent fraudulent alteration of the amount — a common banking best practice in India.

### Do I need special paper or ink?
No. CHEQUE.IO prints text onto your existing pre-printed cheque leaves using any standard printer. You do not need MICR ink for this application (MICR is pre-printed on the cheque leaf by the bank).

### What scale should I print at?
Always print at **100% scale** (or "actual size"). Never use "fit to page" or scaling in the browser's print dialog, as this shifts all field positions and causes misalignment.

## A/c Payee vs. Bearer

### What is an A/c Payee cheque?
An A/c Payee cheque has two parallel diagonal lines drawn across the top-left corner, with "A/c Payee" or "Not Negotiable" written between them. It can only be deposited into the named payee's bank account and cannot be cashed over the counter.

### What is a Bearer cheque?
A Bearer cheque is payable to whoever presents it at the bank. It is more flexible but less secure than A/c Payee cheques.

### Which should I use?
For most business payments, use **A/c Payee**. It is significantly more secure. Reserve Bearer cheques for specific situations where cash payment is required.

---

## Technical

### What is CTS-2010?
CTS-2010 (Cheque Truncation System 2010) is the standardized cheque format mandated by the Reserve Bank of India. It defines physical dimensions, field positions, MICR band placement, and security features required on all cheque leaves issued by Indian banks.

### Does CHEQUE.IO have an API?
No. CHEQUE.IO is a client-side application. See [api.md](/llms/api.md) for the internal data model.

### Can I export my cheque records?
Currently, records can be printed as a report. CSV/JSON export is planned for a future release. See [roadmap.md](/llms/roadmap.md).

### How many records can I store?
Browser localStorage typically supports 5–10 MB of data. This accommodates thousands of cheque records before approaching any limit.

---

## Deployment

1. Fork https://github.com/Kanishk0107/CHEQUE.IO
2. Log in to Vercel
3. Click "New Project" → Import your fork
